• Integrated RWGS x FT Operation: We are preparing to couple our RWGS pilot with our research partner’s FT system for integrated operation by mid‑summer. In parallel, a standalone FT campaign is already underway — marking an important step toward validating the full process chain.

• FT lab project: We’ve launched a series of lab-scale campaigns to explore the flexibilization of the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process, in close collaboration with a leading R&D partner. Early results are promising and will directly shape the design of our upcoming pilot and demo plants.

• New patent filing: After months of intensive development, we’re now preparing to file a new patent on an innovative method to optimize the operation of our syngas plant. We expect the filing to be completed within the next few weeks — a strong addition to our growing IP portfolio.

• SPRIND lab project: We successfully completed our first validation study with SPRIND, focused on our disruptive RWGS process. • Syngas lab project: In our lab project, we successfully performed tests for the scale-up of our catalyst material as preparation for the pilot plant. Together with an engineering partner, we identified a promising setup for our pilot plant and beyond.

• New patent preparation - During the engineering of our syngas pilot plant, we came up with an interesting way to optimize the operation of our plant. Based on these findings, we are currently preparing a new patent submission.

Even while performing long-term stability tests, the conversion of CO2 to CO remains equally high at over 95%. In addition, we are already performing tests for the scale up of our catalyst material as preparation for the pilot plant and later commercial use.

• Pilot plant project: We made big strides with the pre-engineering of our syngas pilot plant and already selected a partner for building the process. In addition, we were successful with finding a suitable location in Berlin and are positive to quickly advance with the basic engineering and ordering of components.

• FT lab project: In parallel to the RWGS project stream, we successfully scheduled a development project for our load-flexible Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reactor together with an academic partner. The project is planned to start in Q2 2025 and will directly inform our subsequent pilot reactor tests.

Berlin, Feb 12, 2025 – Spark e-Fuels is advancing the future of net-zero aviation with its proprietary e-fuel technology that overcomes existing barriers to using cheap renewable energy in production and increases fuel yields. With the aviation industry facing increasing pressure to decarbonize, Spark is addressing one of the sector’s biggest challenges—scaling cost-effective e-fuel production to meet the surging demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Now backed by a €2.3 million pre-seed round, Spark is focused on building its first e-fuel pilot plant and expanding its team to accelerate technology development and commercialization.

Renewable energy as a key pathway to producing SAFs and reducing aviation emissions is not a new concept, but attempts to utilize it in the past have struggled. The intermittent availability of wind and solar, which have become the fastest-growing and most cost-effective energy sources, has proven challenging for conventional e-fuel production processes. Spark’s breakthrough technology is overcoming the barrier of intermittent renewable energy with patented production processes that streamline and decouple key production steps, enabling a scalable and cost-efficient SAF solution.

Unlike conventional methods that rely on continuous electricity and hydrogen supplies, Spark’s approach seamlessly accounts for day-to-day intermittent availability as well as any seasonal changes to these inputs, significantly cutting costs while ensuring a high production output. This innovation also reduces the need for expensive hydrogen storage or grid infrastructure, finally making e-fuels a viable alternative to fossil kerosene.
